Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Ruhengeri
Our safari guide will pick you up at any agreed upon point and later transfer you to Ruhengeri in Musaze district up to the park, the journey from Kigali to the Volcanoes national park takes about 2-3 hours’ drive passing through gorgeous scenery and rolling hills. However before being transferred to the park, if you arrive in Kigali in time our safari guide will first take you for a Kigali city tour and visit important sites like the Kigali genocide memorial site in Gisozi, visit the national museum, visit cultural sites and market places among many others if time allows. After you will set off to the north western corner of the Rwanda and finally to volcanoes national park a home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Arrive at the park in the evening, check into your pre-booked accommodation for relaxation. Day 2: Gorilla tracking in volcanoes national park
Early morning breakfast before you set off to the park headquarters for a short briefing about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas and also gets you assigned to the gorilla group to trek. After the briefing you will follow the ranger guide deep to the rain tropical forest to begin the activity possibly the most done activity at the park. Trekking the gorillas in this light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a supernatural experience no one would love to miss. The walks might be arduous so some physical fitness is needed an encounter of a family of gorillas is rewarding spend an hour with them and be back at the base in time for late lunch. Some gorilla families however are more elusive and tracking can take a full day especially when it’s wet and muddy. After the activity retire back to the lodge for lunch. Day 3: Diane Fossy grave hike
You will wake up this morning for a heavy breakfast and then after you will embark on a transfer for a hike to a grave yard of Diane Fossy in Karisimbi research center where she conducted most of her research. Diane Fossy was a prominent primatologist and a researcher who carried out research on the behaviors of these endangered gorillas over a period of 18 years, without her, gorillas would be no more; however her efforts made a point attraction in Rwanda. She was later killed in by the said poachers whom she had made herself very unpopular. The hike to the Dian Fossy is somehow tough as it involves passing through the forest and slopes, so some physical fitness is needed. At the site you are equipped with informative information about her works. The Diane Fossey hike can go to up to full day. Day 4: Transfer to Dr. Congo
After breakfast at the lodge, our safari guide will drive you to the Rwanda –DR. Congo border and cross to Democratic republic of Congo. The drive is very fantastic with beautiful views of the rolling hills and scenery together with views to people’s homes and plantations. Our tour guide/driver will help you to clear with customs and later cross border to the Democratic Republic of Congo. You will continue with the drive to Goma and later to Kibati Village near Nyiragongo Mountain and have your Dinner and an overnight at Kibati Village on Budget accommodation
Day 5: Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking.
Wake up for breakfast and later our safari guide will drive you to staring point in Kabit Village and start the real experience, if interested before proceeding to the starting point the guide will first take you to some shops and do some shopping in the grocery store before you precede Nyiragongo. After at the starting point the site guide will brief you about the activity and later start the activity. With your hiking gears, Begin the hiking and arrive at the top which can go up to 5-8hours depending on the speed. En-route will be magnificent sights to some species of animals and bird trails. Admire the lava lake all evening, before retiring in the tents on the rim of the giant crater higher above the energetic lake. Some physical fitness is needed as the hike is somehow demanding although the path is relatively easy and not too high. Dinner and an overnight at the top shelter.
Day 6: Descend back and transfer to Kigali
This morning after breakfast at the top shelter, you will descend to the starting point where you will meet your safari guide who will drive you to Rwanda Congo border. Descending normally takes about 4-5 hours. After crossing, you will drive back to Kigali have lunch in Kigali and later connect to your departure flight back home if scheduled on this day.
