Detailed activities

Day 1: Arrival and an overnight

Upon your arrival at the international airport Kigali, you will be met by our safari tour guide/driver who will brief you about the all safari and then later transfer you to your booked accommodation for dinner and an overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel /Chez Lando/ Des Mille Collines

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera national park

Our guide will meet you at your hotel and then take you to a Kigali city tour after breakfast; places to visit include the Kigali genocide memorial site, the national museum, cultural sites, and market places among others. Have lunch in Kigali and then after embark on a drive to Akagera national park with a fantastic view throughout. Arrive in the evening for checking up into your booked accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay at Akagera Game lodge, Luzizi Comp/Umbrella Pine/Dereva Hotel

Day 3: Game viewing and launch cruise

wildlife at Akagera national parkYou will walk up very early for a cup of tea or coffee, and then after the guide will drive you to the eastern side of the park to catch up with the big games that reside at the park. games expected to see include elephant, buffaloes, lions and leopard can also be spotted, others include warthogs, giant forest hog, waterbuck, gazelle, spotted hyena, Burchall’s zebra and giraffe among other. After retire back to the lodge for lunch, after go for  a 2-3 boat cruise on the lake Ihema, for more opportunity to see species of wildlife that live and feed on the lake including schools of hippo and crocodiles, while buffaloes and elephants can be spotted along the shore . Bird watching at the lake is fantastic; lucky visitors can came across the rare shoe bill. Dinner and an overnight at Akagera game lodge, Luzizi Camp/Umbrella Pine/Dereva Hotel

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park

Have breakfast and then after you will be transferred to Nyungwe forest national park in the south western part of Rwanda a home to over 13 species of primates the most common is the chimpanzee. You will have enroute stopovers to visit interesting places like the genocide memorial site, king’s palace at Nyanza, Butare Museum among others. Have lunch within Butare and then after continue with your journey to the park. Check into your booked accommodation. Day 5: Chimp tracking-Nyungwe forest national park

Chimpanzee tracking in kibaaleMorning breakfast is followed by a transfer to the park headquarters at 8: 00 am to receive briefings about chimpanzee tracking. After follow the ranger guide to the forest to begin the search of our close relatives who shares almost 98% of human genes. Chimps are magnificent fan to watch especially when they jump from tree to tree. The time spent searching for our relatives is unpredictable however it can go from 1-6 hours while searching for them as meeting them depends on where they spent their last night from, a reasonable degree of fitness is highly needed, ounce they are met you will forget all the difficulties you’ve passed through and you use the one hour you are allowed to stay with them. Other species of primates can be seen in the process of tracking chimps like the owl-faced monkey, black and white colobus monkeys, baboons, more than 300 Colobus monkeys, mona monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys the list is endless.  After the activity, in the evening, you can go for an optional nature walk. Day 6: Transfer to Ruhengeri

From Nyungwe forest national park, you will head to volcanoes national park a home to endangered mountain gorillas. However, you will first visit Kibuye and explore the interesting places around and then after you will proceed to the park. In case the evening is free you can go for a community walk. Dinner and an overnight at Sabyinya Silverback Lodge, Gorilla Nest Lodge/ Le Bombou Lodge/ Kinigi Guest House

Day 7: Mountain gorilla tracking and departure

gorilla trekking in RwandaEarly morning breakfast before you set off to the park headquarters for a short briefing about the dos and don’ts while with gorillas and also gets you assigned to the gorilla group to trek. After the briefing you will follow the ranger guide deep into the rain tropical forest to begin the activity possibly the most done activity at the park. Trekking the gorillas in this light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a supernatural experience no one would love to miss. The walks might be arduous so some physical fitness is needed an encounter of a family of gorillas is rewarding spend an hour with them and be back at the base in time for late lunch. Some gorilla families however are more elusive and tracking can take a full day especially when it’s wet and muddy. However should the evening be free you will take a tour to lakes Burera and Ruhondo. Day 8: Return journey

After breakfast you will be driven back to Kigali, and if you missed the first Kigali city tour, go for a city tour and visit important sites like the Kigali city tour memorial site, visit market plavces and if interetsde you can shop the local produced items among many others, have lunch en route and then after you will be transferred to the airport to meet your departure flight back home.
